Mwiri League officially wrapped up its fifth season on Saturday, May 31st with a high-energy finale at the Pitstop Bar Sports Grounds in Jinja.

The event marked the end of a season that began in August last year, bringing together alumni in a series of competitive matches backed by Guinness. The league has grown to become a highlight on the sports and social calendar as it unites Old Mwirian alumni.

In a dramatic climax to months of intense competition, Suici FC emerged victorious, lifting the coveted main shield, while Buliti Cricket Club (CC) took home the cricket trophy in a showdown that had fans on edge and cheering throughout the day.

Speaking at the grand finale, Chris Mwanja, President of the Mwiri League, lauded the spirit of the participants and the overwhelming support the league has received over the season.

“Season 5 has been nothing short of phenomenal. From the passion on the pitch to the unity off it, this league continues to embody the true Old Mwirian spirit. We are proud of how far we’ve come and the legacy we’re building,” said Mwanja.

This year’s finale was hosted by Athletico Muniga, Kombora, Suici, and Makaya, four of the league’s standout teams, who came together to organize a well-coordinated and festive close to the season.

The celebrations peaked with an exhilarating night of music and entertainment, featuring energetic performances from Ritah Dancehall, John Blaq, The Mith, and a spectacular closing set by Ugandan hip-hop legend Navio, which kept the crowd on their feet late into the night.

Denise Paula Nazzinda, Guinness Brand Manager, praised the league for its consistency and vibrant community.

“Guinness is proud to stand with the Mwiri League as it continues to unite and inspire. The energy, passion, and purpose behind this league perfectly align with our brand’s celebration of boldness and character. We are honored to be part of this remarkable journey,” said Nazzinda.

The Mwiri League, which now boasts a roster of 25 teams made up of passionate Old Mwirian alumni, has steadily grown in both scale and stature, cementing its place as one of the most vibrant alumni sporting leagues in the country. With excitement still palpable amongst the Mwirians, and conversations already turning to Season 6, Season 5 leaves behind a lasting imprint for many with both the scores and the spirit of the Old Boys.
