The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has officially unveiled the stadiums that will host the 2024 edition of the TotalEnergies African Nations Championship (CHAN), marking a historic first as the tournament is set to be jointly hosted by three East African nations: Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda.

Scheduled to take place from 2nd to 30th August 2025, CHAN 2024 returns to East Africa for the first time since Rwanda hosted the event in 2016. This year’s edition promises to be a landmark moment for regional football.

Uganda’s Namboole Stadium in Kampala has been selected to host both the third-place playoff and a number of key group-stage matches. As one of East Africa’s largest and most iconic sporting arenas, the stadium’s inclusion highlights its importance in Uganda’s football infrastructure and its readiness to stage continental events.

Kampala will serve as the host city for Group C, which includes Uganda, Niger, Guinea, South Africa, and Algeria. The home advantage and local support are expected to give the Uganda Cranes a significant boost as they aim for a strong tournament showing.

Opening and Closing Matches Spread Across the Region

The tournament will kick off at Tanzania’s Benjamin Mkapa Stadium in Dar es Salaam on 2nd August 2025. Known for its modern facilities and passionate football fanbase, the stadium is set to set the tone for an electrifying tournament.

The grand finale will be held at Kenya’s Kasarani Stadium in Nairobi on 30th August 2025, while Uganda’s Mandela Stadium will host the third-place match, ensuring that all three nations play a prominent role in the tournament’s climax.

Zanzibar Also Joins as a Host Venue

In a further nod to regional inclusion, CAF has designated Zanzibar’s Amaan Stadium as one of the official venues. The stadium recently proved its credentials by successfully hosting the 2024/25 CAF Confederation Cup Final earlier this year. Zanzibar will host Group D, featuring top sides like Senegal, Congo, Sudan, and Nigeria.

Group Stage Host Cities and Groupings:

  • Group A – Nairobi, Kenya: Kenya, Morocco, Angola, DR Congo, Zambia
  • Group B – Dar es Salaam, Tanzania: Tanzania, Madagascar, Mauritania, Burkina Faso, Central African Republic
  • Group C – Kampala, Uganda: Uganda, Niger, Guinea, South Africa, Algeria
  • Group D – Zanzibar: Senegal, Congo, Sudan, Nigeria
