Uganda Cranes attacking midfielder Travis Mutyaba has completed a move to Tunisian giants CS Sfaxien, following a difficult stint at French club Girondins Bordeaux.

The former SC Villa attacker arrived in France with high expectations, but his time at Bordeaux fell short of promise, making just 18 appearances in the French fourth tier, mostly as a substitute, and failed to record a goal or assist.

He also featured in three Coupe de France matches and played an additional three games for Bordeaux’s reserve side in National 3, where he scored once.

Despite showcasing glimpses of his technical skill and creativity, the 19-year-old struggled to adapt to the competitive demands of European football. His contract, which was initially set to run until June 2027, was terminated by mutual consent.

Widely regarded as one of Uganda’s brightest footballing prospects, Mutyaba’s journey in France highlights the common challenges many young African players face abroad—from physical adaptation and tactical adjustment to fierce competition for places.

Now, with a fresh start at CS Sfaxien, one of Tunisia’s most decorated clubs, Mutyaba will be hoping to reignite the spark that once made him a standout on the Ugandan football scene.
