Olympic champion Peruth Chemutai will this afternoon line up for the Women’s 3000m Steeplechase final in the 2025 World Championship, chasing another historic title for Uganda. The race is scheduled for 3:57pm at the Japan National Stadium.

Chemutai arrives in peak form, having dominated the fast-paced Heat 3 on Monday with a blistering 9:07.68 — the quickest time across all three heats. The performance reaffirmed her class on the same track where she famously struck Olympic gold in 2021.

Kenya’s Doris Lemngole (9:08.97) and Ethiopia’s Lomi Muleta (9:12.20) followed her home in that heat, underlining the calibre of competition awaiting in the final.

Elsewhere, defending world champion Winfred Mutile Yavi of Bahrain signalled her intent by winning Heat 2 in 9:15.63, while 2023 bronze medallist Faith Cherotich of Kenya claimed Heat 1 in 9:13.95. Former world champion Norah Jeruto of Kazakhstan also advanced strongly, clocking 9:14.25.

With Yavi, Cherotich, Jeruto, Lemngole and Muleta all in contention, the final promises a fierce battle. But all eyes will be on Chemutai, who now carries Uganda’s brightest medal hopes following the withdrawal of stars Joshua Cheptegei and Jacob Kiplimo.
