Uganda’s Olympic gold medalist Peruth Chemutai is set to compete at the prestigious Eugene Diamond League meet on July 5 in the United States, as she continues her impressive comeback on the international athletics scene.

The 24-year-old steeplechase star, who clinched gold in the women’s 3,000m steeplechase at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, will face stiff competition from a stacked field that includes Kenya’s Faith Cherotich—winner of three straight Diamond League events this season—and Bahrain’s Winfred Yavi, the reigning world champion.

Chemutai heads to Eugene with growing momentum, having finished a strong second at the recent Paris Diamond League. That performance marked a significant return to top form and added to the confidence surrounding her build-up to the World Athletics Championships, set for September in Tokyo.

Her coach, Addy Ruiter, emphasized the importance of the Eugene race in her preparations, saying their current focus is on sharpening both speed and endurance. “This meet is a key benchmark for Peruth. It will give us a clear picture of where she stands among the world’s elite ahead of the 2025 global championships,” he said.

With her sights firmly set on reclaiming the top spot on the world stage, Chemutai’s outing in Eugene will be closely watched by fans and competitors alike.
