More than 1.4 million learners in Uganda are preparing to sit their final examinations across the Primary Leaving Examinations (PLE), Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE), and Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (UACE), according to the Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB).

UNEB Executive Director Daniel Odongo confirmed that this year’s cycle will open with UCE candidates, who will be briefed by head teachers on 10 October.

The briefings, he said, are vital for guiding candidates on regulations, ethical conduct, and avoiding malpractice. The first papers — Geography in the morning and Biology in the afternoon — will be written on October 13, with UCE exams running until November 7.

Primary candidates will follow, beginning with a national briefing on October 31. They will write Mathematics and Social Studies/Religious Education on 3 November, before concluding with Integrated Science and English on November 4.

The final group, Uganda’s A’ Level candidates, will be briefed on November 7 before starting their UACE papers on November 10. The opening day will feature Theory of Government, History of Africa, and Physics Paper One in the morning session, followed by Literature, Kiswahili, and Physics Paper Two in the afternoon.

Odongo said the structured timetable ensures fairness, smooth coordination, and adequate preparation across all three categories. “The briefing exercise is crucial in reminding candidates about the rules, the importance of integrity, and the consequences of malpractice,” he stressed.

With the calendar now confirmed, attention turns to revision as schools, candidates, and parents make final preparations for the most important exams of the academic year.
