Neema Olomi, from Tanzania, emerged the day one leader of the Ladies Open, at the 2026 Johnnie Walker Uganda Open Golf Championship, currently underway at the par-72 Uganda Golf Club- in Kampala.
Olomi, a scratch golfer who hails from Arusha Gymkhana Golf Club, who also led on day one of last year’s Open, at the Lugazi Hills Golf & Country Club, ended yesterday in the lead with a gross score of 75.
“I feel great. I prepared for this. it’s been a long since I won this tournament and I’d like do it this year, so leading on day one is a good start,” Olomi, famously known for winning the 2018 title at Entebbe Club said.
Olomi started her round with one-over at the par-5 hole one. However, she kept her cool and returned even pars on 14 holes and a birdie on the par-6 hole 13.
Behind Olomi is her countrymate Hawa Wanyeche and Uganda’s national team player Judith Komugisha, who are tied for second with 77. The pair both birdied twice and are primed for the second day.
“This is my club so there’s no stage fright for me. The course is in good condition. Today my swing was good and I believe things can only get better going forward,” Komugisha stated.
Two Ugandans are tied for fourth off 78. Three-time winner Martha Babirye, 2023 winner Peace Kabasweka, and youngster Keisha Kagoro, all of whom have donned national colours, are in contention for the main prize.
Uganda’s Joyce Kisembo and Tanzania’s Victoria Taiko, are tied for seventh with 78, with just a shot ahead of Assa Nambogwe (Uganda) and Ayne Magombe (Tanznaia), who cap the top 10.
The Ladies Open, the opening event of the 2026 Johnnie Walker Uganda Open Golf Championship, welcomed participants in the bronze category, as well as subsidiaries on day two, and day three, respectively, with a full course anticipated.
