Following President Yoweri Museveni’s assertion to Parliamentary Committee on Commissions, Statutory Authorities and State Enterprises (COSASE) that he will refund the Shs6billion he authorized as a reward to 42 government officials, former Ethics and Integrity minister thinks it’s a   strategic plan to end the probe.

According to Matembe the officials  must return the money not the president.

“People who took the money should bring it back. This business of president refunding the money will not work. President Museveni’s acceptance to pay back the money is a trick to divert Ugandans from the probe, ” she said.

Matembe also blamed the COSASE committee for accepting to meet Museveni at the State house arguing that Parliament is superior to the executive in terms of power.

Early this week, legislators led by COSASE Chairperson Abdu Katuntu went to the State House to meet Museveni. Journalists were barred  from covering the event.
