– This Monday morning, business magnate Sudhir Ruparelia, the Honorary Consul of Nepal in Uganda, led celebrations to mark Nepal’s Constitution Day with a symbolic cake-cutting ceremony at the Ugandan Consulate, housed in Crane Chambers, Kampala.

The commemoration, held three days after the official September 19 observance in Nepal, brought together several Nepalese nationals, including many working within Sudhir’s vast Ruparelia Group of Companies.

Nepal’s Constitution Day marks the promulgation of the 2015 Constitution, which officially transitioned the Himalayan nation from a constitutional monarchy to a federal republic. The charter, enacted in the wake of the devastating 2015 earthquake, is seen as a symbol of resilience and inclusivity, especially for historically marginalized groups such as Dalits and Janajatis. It remains a national holiday celebrated every September 19 in Nepal.

Speaking at the Kampala ceremony, Mr. Ruparelia highlighted the importance of the occasion, noting: “It’s a celebration of resilience and shared values.” He further underscored the growing ties between Uganda and Nepal.

Sudhir was appointed Honorary Consul of Nepal to Uganda in 2020 by Nepalese President Bidhya Devi Bhandari. Through his role and business influence, he has continued to deepen cultural and diplomatic relations between the two nations.
