“Shela phela sazane kangcono…. Aw’ shela phela… ayayayaii…”, the crowd sang along to one of Boohle’s biggest hits, as the South African songstress took over Don Julio’s Summer Active Party, at 1420- Bugolobi, on Sunday, September 20.
The day-into-night celebration, which was, the second edition Summer Active Party of its kind, had guests flock the venue as early as 3pm. They slowly settled into their reserved tables, all set for an afternoon of tequila, delicious food and easy conversation, before transitioning into a high energy fun-packed night.
The tequila was served in all forms; from tasty cocktails like the Reposado Negroni, to bottle serves of Don Julio catalogue- Reposado, Blanco, Añejo and 1942.
Guests took turns to capture their most vogue-worthy photos against the striking backdrop that was anchored by an oversized sombrero, one of the party’s most Instagrammed corners.
To keep the mood and tempo high, the day’s music policy was superintended by a lineup of top DJs, that included- Don Julio Core ambassador- DJ Dash, Etania, – who opened with solo sets, before back-to-back duo sets that saw Selector Jay team up with DJ Sssese, while DJ Ames partnered with City Girl.
The sets ensured the crowd vibed to a hit of everything- from Hip Hop, Amapiano, R&B and classics, every guest found at least one mix that had them grooving, lip-syncing and chanting along.
Right from her arrival at the airport, headliner- Boohle, said Ugandan’s were in for a treat, and she proved that she meant every single bit of her words.
When she finally took to the stage, the energy shifted up a gear. Partygoers cheered loudly, as they danced and sang- word-for-word, as she ran through fan favourites like Pillow Talk, Ngibambe Duze, Shela, and Woza, among others.
1420 was lit. The fun was glaringly evident. Boohle had brought the house down. Safe to say; the party lived up to its billing.
“This is awesome, this is what a real party should look and feel like. The tequila set the perfect mood. The music, the DJ line up, and Boohle’s performance, have all been on point,” said a reveler, who only identified herself as Cynthia.
