The Electoral Commission Chairperson Justice Simon Byabakama has condemned the manner in which two presidential candidates NUP’s Kyagulanyi Robert Sentamu and FDC’s Patrick Oboi Amuriat were brutally arrested by security forces on nomination day.

Byabakama says the acts of the security forces demean the democratic process of the elections.

“Such episodes should not be part of the democratic process. Whether there was justification of the incidents, security forces should act better,” says Byabakama.

Byabakama reveals that the commission is investigating the matter to establish what exactly led to the actions of police and other security forces.

He however urges candidates at all levels to always act within the law to avoid clashes with the security forces.

EC and the 11 presidential candidates are expected to hold a meeting today to agree on the election campaigns.

The 14th day of January 2021 is appointed polling day for Presidential Elections.
