Eddy Kenzo’s Born in Africa has been nominated for best music video at the Caribbean Music Awards.

The song “Born in Africa” was originally created by the late Philly Bongole Lutaaya, who passed away on December 15, 1989.

To honour the late singer’s legacy, Eddy Kenzo was granted permission earlier this year to redo the song.

Despite having stunning visuals, Kenzo’s rendition received harsh criticism from many music critics who thought he didn’t successfully recreate the song.

The song video has fortunately received a nomination for a Caribbean Music Award.

“Our Born in Africa is nominated for best video in Caribbean Afro Music Awards God is Good,” Kenzo posted.

The Caribbean Music Awards are a venue for recognising, honouring, and celebrating Caribbean talent that has significantly improved their music and diverse culture.

The awarding ceremony is scheduled for Thursday, August 31 2023 at Kings Theatre Brooklyn New York.
