The Tooro American Association (TAA) has announced the dates and key details for its 2026 annual convention, set to take place in Dallas, Texas, from May 22 to May 25.
This year’s gathering promises a vibrant weekend of networking, cultural connection, and community engagement, bringing together members of the Tooro diaspora and friends of the region in what organizers describe as a memorable and impactful experience.
As part of the preparations, TAA Convention Co-Chair Ramesh Feroze recently visited Tooro Babies Home in Uganda, where he witnessed firsthand the work being done to support vulnerable children. Inspired by this visit, the organizing committee has included a charity fundraising walk on Saturday, May 23. Proceeds from the walk will go directly toward supporting the children’s home.
Participants are encouraged to join the cause by purchasing a T-shirt at $25, with all contributions going to the initiative.
The convention will feature a lineup of prominent speakers led by keynote speaker Ambassador Robie Kakonge Akiiki. Other speakers include Princess Ruth Nsemere Komuntale Farquharson Akiiki, who will share her personal journey to inspire young people, and mental health specialist Joanna Ahounou, who brings over a decade of experience in treating behavioral and mental health conditions.
Also expected is Dorcas W. Okalany, Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Lands, Housing, and Urban Development, who will engage attendees on land and property ownership issues in Uganda.
Col (Dr.) Ivan Edwards, a U.S. Air Force Flight Surgeon, physician, and award-winning poet, will also speak at the event. Born in Kampala, he has built a distinguished career spanning medicine, military service, and community leadership, and is widely respected within the Ugandan diaspora.
In addition, the National Identification and Registration Authority (NIRA), in partnership with the Ugandan Embassy in Washington, D.C., will offer registration services throughout the convention.
Entertainment will be provided by Ugandan artist Saava Karim, who is expected to add energy and excitement to the event.
Attendance fees have been set at $230 for adults, $100 for young people aged 13 to 18, and $30 for children aged 5 to 12.
