The conversation got real and a little uncomfortable at Old Tymerz Ntinda on Friday night, as Gilbey’s Hangouts returned for its third edition, turning up the heat on one of modern relationships’ most whispered topics: phone passwords.

As the first week of May came to an end, many people were already looking for a way to slow down and release the pressure that often builds up during busy work weeks. Between endless traffic, demanding schedules, and personal responsibilities, Friday evenings have increasingly become a time for friends to gather, catch up on life, laugh over shared experiences, and transition smoothly into the weekend.

With chilled cocktails, relaxed music, and open conversations, Gilbey’s Hangouts offered exactly that kind of atmosphere; a social escape where people could unwind comfortably while connecting over relatable discussions.

Host Ronnie McVex steered the evening into bold territory, asking a simple but explosive question; should couples share everything, including access to their phones?

What followed was an unfiltered clash of perspectives. Men in the circle argued passionately for privacy, insisting passwords are mainly for security, not secrecy. “It’s not about hiding anything. It’s about trusting me to have my own space,” one guest said.

But the ladies weren’t having it. Many fired back that no password signals unity and transparency. “If you’ve got nothing to hide, why lock it? Secrets kill trust,” a female attendee countered, sparking cheers and groans in equal measure.

The debate cut deep, revealing real emotions and lived experiences. Some admitted hiding behind passwords feeds conspiracy; others stood firm that trust doesn’t require an open phone policy. Laughter, gasps, and honest storytelling filled the room long into the night.

Amid the spirited arguments, guests sipped Gilbey’s signature cocktails, keeping the mood social and chilled. Old Tymerz’s nostalgic old-school playlist provided the perfect backdrop, relaxed enough to let guards down but lively enough to keep energy high.

The third edition drew an even bigger crowd, proving Ugandans are hungry for real, unfiltered conversations in a safe, enjoyable space.

“What stood out most tonight was how openly people expressed themselves and connected through honest conversation. After long and demanding weeks, people are looking for spaces where they can relax, share opinions freely, laugh with friends, and enjoy real moments together. Gilbey’s Hangouts continues to create that environment where conversations flow naturally and everyone feels part of the experience.” Gilbey’s Brand Manager Raymond Karama said
