PHOTOS: Rotary Cancer Run sells out, Shs770m collected

As early as 6am, participants of the Rotary Cancer Run 2018 were already at Kololo Airstrip which was the starting and finishing point of the anticipated run.

They underwent various aerobics drills to warm up for the race. At exactly 7 am, the Chief Runner,the Vice president of Uganda, Hon. Edward Ssekandi flagged off the race.

The 5km race started at Kololo, Elgon Terrace, Acacia Avenue, Upper Kololo, Lugogo by-pass, Nviri Road, Ex avenue, Mpala avenue back to Kololo.

Whereas those who went for the 10km race took the Elgon Terrace, Acacia Avenue, Kira Road, Lugogo Bypass (Rotary Avenue), Kira Road police station, Golf Course, Lower Kololo terrace and finished at Kololo.

All runners were welcomed back with free bottles of mineral water, stretches and treatment from medics. 

This year’s proceeds will go towards the purchase of two Linear Accelerators (modern cancer treatment machines) and building of two bunkers at Nsambya Hospital estimated at $4.5 million approximately Shs18bn.

According to Dennis Jjuuko, one of the event organizers who is the President, Rotary Naalya, a record Shs770m was collected.
