Comedian MC Kapale, real name Simon Kawuki, has shared how his move to the United States, once filled with hope, turned into a painful and difficult chapter of his life.
Kapale says he travelled abroad expecting a fresh start through marriage, believing it would bring stability, love, and new opportunities. Instead, he found himself in a relationship that quickly became uncomfortable and emotionally draining.
He recalls that soon after the wedding, signs of trouble began to show. A question from one of his wife’s sons about when he planned to leave the U.S. made him feel unwelcome, setting the tone for a home environment he says never fully accepted him.
According to Kapale, the situation later worsened, with the marriage becoming abusive and leaving him feeling unsafe. The relationship eventually broke down, but even its end came at a cost.
He claims he was entitled to a divorce settlement worth millions of dollars but chose to walk away after alleged threats from his wife’s children, prioritizing his safety over the money.
Kapale further alleges that his troubles escalated when he was falsely accused of attempted rape, leading to his arrest and time in prison—an experience he describes as deeply traumatic.
He also recounts an incident where he was taken to a shrine in his wife’s village, which he believes was an attempt to harm him spiritually, highlighting how far the situation had deteriorated.
Left stranded in the U.S. and unwilling to return home immediately, Kapale explored seeking asylum. However, he says the process required proof of persecution, something he struggled to provide.
In a desperate attempt to strengthen his case, he admits he pretended to be gay during TikTok live sessions, hoping it would support his asylum claim. Instead, the move backfired, attracting criticism and online abuse.
With his plans failing, his health declining, and pressure mounting, Kapale says he eventually gave up and decided to return to Uganda.
Now back home, he views the experience as a hard lesson.
