Veteran politician and Finance Minister Matia Kasaija once again left many Ugandans entertained with his trademark humour and cheerful personality after being sworn in as Member of Parliament for Buyanja County for the 2026–2031 term.
Speaking shortly after the ceremony, the 82-year-old minister said he still feels energetic and healthy despite his age, adding that he hopes to live up to 100 years.
“I am 82, but still very strong. I have a friend and we agreed that we must live healthy lives until at least 100 years,” Kasaija said with a smile.
The long-serving legislator also credited his good health to a peaceful family life, praising his wife for taking good care of him throughout their 52 years of marriage.
According to Kasaija, his wife has always supported him and avoids giving him stress, something he believes has greatly contributed to his wellbeing.
When asked about the minister’s lifestyle and diet, his wife revealed that Kasaija mainly eats fruits and vegetables and rarely consumes foods such as bread.
“He mostly eats fruits and vegetables. He rarely eats things like bread. He also likes boiled meat,” she explained.
Kasaija remains one of Uganda’s longest-serving politicians. He has represented Buyanja County in Parliament since 1980 and has served in different ministerial positions for about two decades, from 2006 to 2026.
