Calm down and support my bill — Raphael Magyezi to Ugandans

As consultative meetings by members of parliament officially ended yesterday, the mover of presidential age limit bill Raphael Magyezi has come out to ask Ugandans to give more support to the pending amendment.

While appearing on NBS’ Morning Breeze, the Igara West legislator said  that he carried out a joint consultative meeting yesterday in Bushenyi and about 9000 of the 10000 that turned up gave him a go ahead.

But Matooke Republic understands that these figures are hyped, at least according to what was broadcast on different television channels. The numbers could not exceed 2000.

However, dubious Magyezi argued that this bill doesn’t seek to make Museveni a life president hut rather to make the presidency position more open to all eligible voters in the country.

EATS OWN WORDS

Contrary to what Magyezi said earlier in September that he would withdraw the bill if Igara people opposed it, the legislator has, as expected, changed his mind.

“Withdrawing the bill would be disastrous at this time,” he argued.

He also said that he won’t be reporting the Parliamentary and Legal Affairs Committee to Speaker Rebecca Kadaga as he had vowed, arguing that it has since reformed and reduced on opposition.
