Asuman Basalirwa, Jeema’s candidate in the forthcoming Bugiri Municipality by-election has said that his rivals are defacing his campaign posters.

“If you walk around the whole constituency, you find my posters defaced. This is the work of our rivals,” he said.

Basalirwa however noted that his campaign which has taken a door-to-door mechanism will continue undeterred.

The July 19 election has pitted the opposition against each other with FDC’s Eunice Namatende and Asuman Basalirwa of the Justice Forum going head to head.

Other candidates are NRM’s John Francis Oketcho and two independent candidates Siraj Lyavala and Joel Wamono.

Less than a week ago, Basalirwa’s supporters accused rivals parties of physically assaulting them as they campaigned for their candidate.

“One of my supporters was even stabbed and is in hospital as we speak. I am concerned at the rate which this election is getting violent,” Basalirwa says.
