Unlike in most court appearances where lawyers of suspects blame security organs for torturing their clients while in detention with  most recent being of Kyadondo East MP Robert Kyagulanyi and Mityana Municipality MP Francis Zaake, today morning, August 24, as Gen Kale Kayihura was making his first court appearance since his arrest on June 13, his lawyers applauded UPDF authorities for treating their client with deserved dignity.

“Let me take this opportunity to appreciate the  UPDF authorities for treating our client (Gen Kayihura) with respect all this time he has been in your custody,” Elly Karuhanga stated.

Elly further asked the court to allow the General spend the weekend at home with his wife and children. However, the Court Martial asked Elly to place his request in writing in the next sitting scheduled for August 28.

Gen. Kale Kayihura was charged with repatriation of Rwandan dissidents , illegally issuing fire arms to civilian groups like Kitata and failing to protect military war material. He pleaded not guilty.
