Slain policeman Muhammad Kirumira had asked – although in vain – to resign from the Uganda Police Force in January 2018.

This, he said, was due to a witch hunt but the former Inspector General of Police, Gen. Kale Kayihura.

Before Kayihura was sacked, Kirumira had released incriminating evidence pinning his former boss and other operatives in the force for several crimes, some for which Kayihura and his closest circle were arrested.

“I will put in my official retirement application to earn my discharge letter. I want to leave the police since its clean and I’m branded dirty.I would love to keep my reputation as a freedom fighter. This is my decision which I shall not change permanently,”Kirumira told the media.

Kirumira was later brutally arrested and charged of assault, corruption, extortion, torture but was released on bail.

The former Buyende District Police commander (DPC) however noted that he was waiting for official confirmation from the Police’s administration.

After two months in military detention, Gen. Kayihura was released on bail by the General Court Martial and he reportedly travelled to Nairobi, Kenya for treatment earlier this week.

His co-accused such as Nixon Agasirwe, Herbert Muhangi, Boda-Boda 2010’s Abdallah Kitatta and Col Ndahura are still under arrest in Makidye Military Barracks.

The Uganda Police is yet to release a statement on Kirumira’s shooting.
