Police in Greater Masaka is on a search mission for five people that are missing after a boat they were sailing on hit a rock and capsized on Lake Victoria in Kalangala. According to police, initially ten passengers were on board travelling from Bukasa Islands of Kalangala district heading to Mukono.

However, misfortune hit near Nkese Island before the passenger could reach their destination, after their boat hit a rock and capsized. Police says that their interrogation with survivors has indicated that the accident came as a result of over loading.

“It’s alleged that the boat was overloaded with charcoal,” a police statement reads.
