The Anti-Corruption Court has fined Amir Kayiwa Shs4.8 million after he pleaded guilty to offering a bribe to police officers guarding a crime scene in Lubowa, Wakiso District.
Kayiwa was arrested on 29 August 2026 after offering the officers Shs8 million to allow him to remove evidence from the office of Emmanuel Asimwe, a director of Detail Security Company Ltd.
Police officers had secured the company’s premises following a complaint about the alleged theft of 785 kilogrammes of gold. The investigation team had also secured Asimwe’s office as part of the inquiry.
Court heard that Kayiwa first handed Shs4 million to one of the officers before returning with another Shs4 million. He was arrested, and the second payment was recovered. The full Shs8 million was presented as evidence in court.
After convicting him on his own plea of guilty to the offence of offering gratification, the court sentenced Kayiwa to pay a fine of Shs4.8 million or serve three years in prison if he fails to pay.
