While attending mass at St Paul, Kako West Buganda Diocese yesterday, the King of Buganda Kingdom Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II revealed his dissatisfaction with government over omitting Masaka town from the nine districts that will be elevated to city status.

Kabaka Mutebi said he was surprised to come across such news yet he is aware that Masaka has all the necessary requirements to attain the city status. Kabaka added on that he is going to appoint a team of officials to engage with government over the matter.

Last month government approved the creation of nine cities across the country. These included; Gulu, Entebbe, Fort Portal, Lira, Mbarara, Jinja, Arua and Mbale.

A week later chairpersons of districts in the greater Masaka region filed a lawsuit in the High Court.  They sued the attorney general and ministry of local government for failing to elevate Masaka municipality to city status, despite providing all necessary requirements. They also asked court to order the ministry to explain its decision.
