Minister of State for Lands, Housing, and Urban Development, Hon Chris Baryomunsi has revealed that all the measures given by President Museveni are backed by science and by the time he announces, there has been a lot of thinking by a team of experts.

Baryomunsi said amongst the many directives that have been issued, Ugandans should much adhere to the staying home call.

“You stay at home or you risk resting in peace,” Baryomunsi said while appearing on the NBS Frontline show.

The Minister claimed that COVID-19 is a wake-up call for government to invest in the health sector. He said the health sector is stressed by this situation.

“We need protective gear for the workers. As the pandemic cools out, we might start getting cases from across the country, hence the need to equip the entire health facility,” Baryomunsi said.

He added, “We also have to recruit additional health workers to assist in the fight. All these people and other services require money that is why the Ministry tabled a supplementary budget. Shs300 billion is little, we need more money to fight this.”

On the MPs opposing government’s schedule of distributing relief food, Baryomunsi defended the decision saying, “Our choice is scientific, we are not necessarily following the poverty map of Uganda. The highest concentration of people who would die of starvation is mostly in Kampala and Wakiso.”
