In this coronavirus era, the Ministry of Health has received tremendous praise for the way it has handled the outbreak in the country. Compared to other countries that have registered hundreds of thousands of infections and thousands of deaths, Uganda looks to have the situation under control with 55 confirmed infections of which 20 of them have already recovered.

This has been achieved by Ugandans following the directives put into place by President Museveni last month, but a great deal of it is largely attributed to the relentless and selfless efforts of our health workers stationed in different hospitals, the airport and other points of entry into the country, led by the Minister herself, Dr Jane Ruth Aceng

Health workers have risked their lives, dedicated their time and expertise during this ongoing pandemic, and many have wondered whether they have been given some kind of benefits and allowances to serve as both appreciation and motivation.

While giving a comprehensive update on the COVID-19 situation in Uganda, Dr Aceng revealed that the Ministry is in the process remunerating the health workers and all those that are on the frontline of the COVID-19 fight, only laid back by sorting out their banking details.

“We are in the process of paying allowances to health workers on the frontline once we get their bank accounts. We will also make sure they benefit from all the donations the Ministry has received so far,” Aceng said.

Early today, Kiruddu National Referral Hospital received 200 trays of eggs for their health workers from Ministry of Health.
