On Sunday last week, the President of Tanzania John Pombe Magufuli while speaking on TV, said that he was in contact with the government of Madagascar so that Tanzania could get a dose of Madagascar’s alleged COVID-19 ‘cure’ called COVID Organics (CVO), and that he would soon send in a plane to pick it.

Today, Magufuli’s promise was fulfilled, as the country has received the first shipment of the herbal tea that will be used to treat her COVID-19 patients.

Developed by the state-run Malagasy Institute of Applied Research, the herbal tea was launched by Madagascar’s President Andry Rajoelina and since then, African countries like Guinea Bissau, Equatorial Guinea, Liberia, the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Tanzania, and Senegal among others have placed orders and received their shipments of CVO.

Although Madagascar’s herbal COVID-19 medicine has attracted interest from African countries, the World Health Organisation (WHO) has persistently warned against using it, saying that it has not yet been proved to cure the deadly virus.
