Gen Kasirye Ggwanga’s Will: Who he gave his 200-acre farm, dog

Rtd. Maj. Kasirye Ggwanga was pronounced dead on the morning of Tuesday, June 9, 2020, from Nakasero Hospital where he had spent two weeks getting treatment. Uganda People’s Defence Force (UPDF) Spokesperson Brig. Richard Karemire announced that Kasirye Ggwanga will be given a state funeral, today, Friday, June 12, 2020, at Nkene, Busuju, Mityana District.

According to John Kikaawa, who has been the manager of Kasirye’s Camp David farm in Nakisunga, Mukono district, Kasirye left a will, the details of which he shared with him. Kikaawa has worked with Kasirye for 30 years so they were close.

In the will, Kikaawa said that Kasirye strongly emphasized that no one should touch his land in Busujju. The land belongs to his two youngest children and their mother has its title.

At the time of his death, Kasirye’s best friend was his dog who he had named ‘Animal’. Kikaaya says that by the time of his death, Kasirye had not yet decided who will take his dog, but he had already bid it farewell.

Kikaawa also said that Kasirye drove him to Nkene, Busujju, Mityana district and showed him his desired burial place which is near a mango tree. Yesterday, we reported that ownership of this land is under contention as the family of one Andrew Kaweesi alleges the now late General used his gun to grab the land.

Kikaawa says that in Kasirye’s Will, he had already divided his 200-acre Camp David farmland to several people as follows:

  • 10 acres to five doctors who treated him in 2016 after he was diagnosed with lung infections
  • Half of the remainder to the UPDF
  • Half of the remainder to his wives and children. The names of all beneficiaries and how much they would get are clearly stated in his will.

Kikaawa says that all  the 200 acres were divided.

Just a few days before getting sick and admitted to hospital, Kikaawa says that Kasirye put all his cattle and goats from his Camp David farm on a lorry and transported them to Mityana.

Kasirye Ggwanga employed 30 workers on his farm.
