School teachers have been urged to get a third booster shot ahead of the new school term that begins today. This is according to health Minister Dr. Ruth Aceng who notes that the developments are directives from the President to start giving a booster dose to teachers, especially those with underlying medical conditions and those above 50 years.

“I have already taken my third shot, and I am appealing to you teachers to get the third shot before you go back to school. After some time, we shall go for the fourth shot,” she said.

The Ministry of Health has said schools will not be closed again when learners return today despite the escalation of Covid cases and the emergence of new variants.

The Minister of Health, Dr. Jane Ruth Aceng, has encouraged Ugandans to learn how to live with Covid-19 because it is projected not to go away for at least the next two years.

“As we reopen schools on Monday, the government is not going to close the schools again over the rising cases of the third wave of Covid-19,” she noted.

“We have lost a lot during the two years when the schools were closed. So, we need to work hard to recover,” she added.

According to the minister, the virus is not going to go away and Ugandans should therefore learn to live and co-exist with it.

“Corona virus is not going away, but we should learn to live and coexist with it by getting vaccinated and observing the standard operating procedures,” she added.

The Minister who also serves as the Lira city MP made these remarks at a ceremony where she awarded the best male and female learners in last year’s Primary Leaving Examinations (PLE) in Lira City.

Dr. Aceng also said despite the urge in new infections, hospitalization and death from Covid-19, statistics show that those who are dying are the unvaccinated ones.
