The former Chief Executive Officer of Uganda Airlines, Cornwell Muleya arrested last evening on orders of the Inspectorate of Government.

This was after Muleya failed to heed the summons.

According to a statement issued by the Deputy Inspector General of Government, Dr. Patricia Achan Okiria, Muleya willfully and without reasonable justification or excuse refused to obey the summons.

Okiria noted that the IGG summoned Muleya to appear before them on May 23, 2022, to provide evidence and produce documents to the Inspectorate of Government, regarding the mismanagement of public funds, procurement, and recruitment of staff at the Uganda Airlines.

The Inspectorate of Government is investigating into various acts of mismanagement of public funds by public officers at Uganda National Airlines Company (UNAC) between May and June this year.

Muleya who is currently detained at Kampala Central Police Station has reportedly recorded a statement at the headquarters of the Inspectorate.

Muleya was appointed the CEO of Uganda Airlines in 2019, however, his woes started on April 21, 2021, after Works Minister Edward Katumba Wamala sent him and 12 other top officials on forced leave.

Earlier this year, his contract as the Uganda Airlines CEO was terminated on orders of President Yoweri Museveni.

He lodged his complaint under Employment Act, 2006 at the Wakiso labour office.
