Uganda Airlines is under investigation following allegations of financial mismanagement and abuse of office involving some of its officials.

The Criminal Investigations Directorate (CID), in collaboration with the State House Anti-Corruption Unit, has opened a wide-ranging probe focusing on suspected embezzlement, falsification of accounts and irregular procurement practices at the national carrier.

As part of the investigation, CID has written to the airline’s Chief Executive Officer demanding a broad set of documents to support inquiries into the company’s financial and operational dealings. The request was made in a letter dated 7 January 2026.

Investigators are seeking certified records covering the airline’s strategic planning and spending, including the approved National Airline Business and Implementation Plan, the budget for the 2024/2025 financial year, and Contracts Committee minutes that sanctioned the acquisition of Boeing aircraft.

The probe also extends to procurement activities. CID has asked for full procurement files related to several service providers, among them Mixjet Flight Support Services, Associated Energy Group, Nyanzi Tours and Travel, and Aircraft Leasing Services (ALS) Limited. Documents linked to the construction of Uganda Airlines’ offices in Entebbe have also been requested.

Financial records are central to the inquiry. Police want access to the airline’s internal audit report for FY 2024/2025, ticketing and revenue accounts, banking and cash receipt records, and detailed expenditure reports, particularly those related to fuel purchases and supplier transactions during the same period.

In addition, investigators are demanding a list of companies that supported the launch of the Uganda Airlines London route, a major milestone that marked the carrier’s entry into long-haul international flights.

According to the CID letter, Detective Superintendent of Police Nakatudde Winniefred has been assigned to formally receive the requested documents on behalf of the investigative team.

The communication was signed by Lumala Fed for the Deputy Director of CID in charge of Economic Fraud and Anti-Corruption, with copies sent to the CID Director and the Head of the State House Anti-Corruption Unit.

Uganda Airlines has yet to issue an official statement regarding the investigation. The developments come amid heightened public attention on accountability and the use of public funds within state-owned enterprises, especially those that rely heavily on government financing.
