Who is Maj Gen Dick Olum, the new commander of Operation Shujaa

The Commander in Chief of the armed forces, President Yoweri Museveni, has just appointed Maj Gen Dick Olum as Division Commander, Mountain Division, and Overall Operation Commander for Operation Shujaa in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).

He replaces Lt. Gen. Kayanja Muhanga. Last week, Muhanga replaced Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, who was dropped as Commander of Land Forces.

Dick Olum has been the defense advisor at Uganda’s embassy in Kinshasa.

He has previously served as the commanding officer of the UPDF third division in Karamoja. Before that, he served as the commander of the UPDF contingent in Somalia as part of the African Union Mission to Somalia (AMISOM).

Olum was born in Zombo District, West Nile sub-region, Northern Region of Uganda in 1970.
