Police dismantle criminal gang in Kampala

Police has conducted an intelligence-led operation to weed out burglaries, thefts, and robberies in Katwe police division, Old Kampala police division, Nsangi police division, and Wakiso district.

During the operation conducted in Natete, police arrested a one Juuko Ramadhan aka Bunusu.

According to the Kampala Metropolitan police spokesperson, Patrick Onyango, Bunusu confessed to having participated in a number of robberies, burglaries, and thefts together with his group: Young, Mayor, Ashiraf, and Golola.

The group is said to have robbed a 32-inch TV of Hisense from Turyamuhaki Sylvia, a resident of Kitunzi zone, Lungujja ward in Rubaga.

Still, in Lungujja, the gang robbed a TV 32-inch, a laptop, and mobile phones on October 9 from Nancy Acayo.

Onyango said that the same group raided areas of Kinaawa, Bulenga, Nsangi Kitemu estate, Nakirebe, and Katherine along Masaka Road, where they robbed a series of home electronics.

He explained that the gang uses pangas.

“The loot is sold to one Mubiru Hassan, who owns a TV shop in Nateete, especially TVs, but mobile phones and laptops are sold to Kabuye, who works in Cooper Complex.

During the operation, Mubiru was apprehended and his workshop was searched.

“The two TVs stolen from Lungujja have been recovered, 18 TVs suspected to be stolen have also been recovered and has been charged with being in possession of the suspected stolen property,” said Onyango.

Also, the home of Ashiraf was searched, and the detectives recovered an AK47, live ammunition, a TV Hisense, a fridge, and curtains that were robbed from Bulenga.

Police further arrested Semakula Gerald aka Golola, Nakate Flavia, Namatovu Rihanna, and Allan Mukisa Kiggundu.

“We are looking for more suspects who are in this group. They are Ashiraf, Mayor, and Kojja,” he said.
