Police in Nansana have detained 15-year-old Nalumansi Shanita of Nansana East A 1 zone, Nansana Municipality, for allegedly dumping her six-week-old son, Bogere Ezra, in the toilet.

The teen mother, who was defiled and became pregnant, allegedly dropped out of school in P.7.

“After giving birth, her son Bogere Ezra, was rejected by the alleged father, who claimed he wanted DNA proof,” said the police in a statement.

Police provide preliminary details on Ggaba incident where mother allegedly stabbed two children to death and critically injured three others

The teen mother, who was honing her hairdressing skills at a nearby salon, is alleged to have made up her son’s disappearance by saying she had left him on the veranda at around 1.30 p.m.

This prompted the locals in the neighborhood to search before calling the police about the situation.

“It was at around 7:30pm that a group of concerned residents, reported seeing the victim’s clothes in a latrine. The scene was secured and the body of the victim retrieved last Saturday,” said the police.

“Upon further interrogation, the teen mother admitted to have dumped her baby in the latrine, after he was rejected and she had failed to provide for him,” it added.

Police has urged teen mothers experiencing challenges to seek help from shelter and babies’ homes.

“We are also tracing for the alleged defiler and father to the child victim. A separate casefile of Aggravated Defilement, has been opened,” said the police.
