The Electoral Commission (EC) has raised concerns over the proposed name and colours of the People’s Front for Freedom (PFF), a new political party initiated by the FDC-Katonga faction.

In a letter dated September 4, the EC advised the party’s promoters to reconsider their choices due to similarities with existing political parties.

The EC noted that the name “People’s Front for Freedom” closely resembles the already reserved name “People Power Front” and may confuse the public. Additionally, the chosen colours of white and royal blue are similar to those of the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC), which may also cause confusion.

The letter highlighted that the Political Parties and Organizations Act prohibits the use of names, colours, or initials that resemble those of already registered political parties. The EC also pointed out that PFF’s application lacked a full description of its symbol, slogan, and colours.

A promoter of PFF, who requested anonymity, confirmed that the party had responded to the EC’s concerns and was awaiting a reply. This development follows a factional split in the FDC last year, with the Katonga faction now seeking to establish PFF as a new political party.
