National Unity Platform (NUP) leader Robert Kyagulanyi has narrated what his chief bodyguard, Edward Ssebufu, alias Eddie Mutwe, told him during a visit to Masaka Government Prison, where he was remanded on Monday.

Speaking to journalists after the visit this morning—during which he was accompanied by the Leader of the Opposition, Joel Ssenyonyi, NUP Secretary General Lewis Rubongoya, NUP MPs, lawyers, and Eddie Mutwe’s family—Bobi Wine said Eddie Mutwe is in a deteriorating condition, bearing numerous fresh wounds sustained during alleged torture.

“He is in a very terrible condition—he’s rotting away,” Bobi Wine said.

The opposition leader revealed a few things that Eddie Mutwe reportedly told him.

“He told me he was tortured for two consecutive days, and on the third day, Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba physically came and witnessed him (Mutwe) being tortured,” Bobi Wine stated.

He added, “He was stripped naked and electrocuted. He also told me that he was forced to salute Museveni’s picture every day. At one point, he was also made to wear a T-shirt with Museveni’s picture as they taught him Runyankore.”

Bobi Wine further stated that if Mutwe is released from prison alive, he will personally narrate his ordeal.

Eddie Mutwe was abducted a week ago, tortured, and later taken to Masaka High Court on Monday, where he was charged with multiple counts, including robbery, assault, and malicious damage to property. He was then remanded to prison until May 25.

NUP lawyer George Musisi has said they will apply to the High Court under the Human Rights Enforcement Act to have all charges against Eddie Mutwe nullified, citing the torture he endured and the grave violations of his constitutional rights by the state.
