Police in Entebbe have arrested two suspects in connection with the killing of David Mutaaga and Deborah Florence Mutaaga, an elderly couple recently returned to Uganda after living in Zurich, Switzerland for over 30 years.

The couple was found murdered at their residence in Lugonjo, Nakiwogo Cell, Entebbe Municipality, Wakiso District, just hours after hosting a welcome party on Sunday evening with family and friends.

According to police, the attacker—believed to have conducted prior surveillance—scaled the perimeter wall using an electric pole and fatally stabbed both victims.

At the time, David was enjoying a glass of wine, while Deborah was on a phone call, which she used to raise the alarm.

“Deborah called Angela Nakalema and David Golooba, asking them to return to the home because they had been attacked. She also contacted a neighbour and another friend,” police revealed. “She really tried to call for help, but unfortunately, it came too late.”

Angela Nakalema and David Golooba, both domestic workers at the Mutaaga residence, have since been arrested to assist with the investigation. Police say the two had left the home around 7:45 p.m., shortly before the attack occurred.

“We have arrested these individuals to aid our investigations,” said Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson Patrick Onyango. “We are following all leads to find the killer and to understand the motive behind this horrifying crime.”

CCTV footage recovered from the residence shows a man dressed in black with a masked face, climbing into the compound using an electric pole. Investigators believe the intruder deliberately avoided security cameras, suggesting he had prior knowledge of the premises.

When police responded to a distress call from one of the neighbours, they found the main gate open and David’s body near the exit. Deborah’s body was discovered inside the house. No valuables were stolen—mobile phones, money, and other belongings remained untouched.

Authorities now suspect that the motive may be tied to a property-related family dispute, based on statements made by the attacker that were captured on the CCTV audio.

The investigation remains ongoing as police continue to analyse evidence and question the two suspects.
