Kibaale Chief Magistrate’s Court has remanded Onesmas Twinamasiko, the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) parliamentary flag bearer for Bugangaizi East, on charges of assaulting Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja during a political scuffle in Kakumiro District.

Twinamasiko, who appeared before court on Wednesday, was charged with assault and causing bodily harm and sent to Kibaale Government Prison until 10 September.

According to prosecutors, the incident occurred on 17 July during the announcement of NRM primary results at the party’s Kakumiro offices. A fight reportedly broke out, and Twinamasiko is accused of striking the Prime Minister in full view of party supporters. Nabbanja, who represents Kakumiro District in Parliament, sustained injuries in the fracas.

Twinamasiko applied for bail, citing his constitutional right and presenting three sureties: Kakumiro District Chairman Joseph Ssetayi Senkusu, Hon. Lawrence Baraza, and sub-county chairperson Moses Twimukye. However, the state attorney objected to the application, and the magistrate ordered his remand.
