Police have arrested two suspected members of a gang accused of carrying out violent panga attacks in Kawempe, following growing complaints from residents.

The arrests were made on April 21, 2026, during an intelligence-led operation along Tula Namere Road in Kawempe Division, Wakiso District.

The suspects, identified as Serwanja Najjib and Derrick, were picked up after a targeted search. Investigators say the duo is linked to a string of night attacks in which assailants break into homes, assault residents using pangas, and rob them of their valuables.

Officers recovered several items believed to have been used in the crimes, including pangas, housebreaking tools, and two phones suspected to be stolen.

The suspects were also found riding a motorcycle, registration number UGD 081D, whose number plate had been deliberately concealed at the time of arrest.

Police say the operation is part of a wider crackdown on violent gangs in the area, and efforts are underway to track down more suspects connected to the attacks. Investigations are still ongoing.
