Immigration authorities in Adjumani District have arrested 62 Nigerian nationals for allegedly living and working in Uganda without valid work permits, with their activities reportedly centred around a church.
The Directorate of Citizenship and Immigration Control (DCIC) said the group was picked up following a tip-off that led enforcement officers to their location, where they were found operating a church alongside other activities deemed unlawful under immigration regulations.
“Following a tip-off, our enforcement team arrested 62 Nigerian nationals operating illegally in Adjumani without work permits. The group, primarily found operating a church among other activities, is being processed for prosecution under Uganda’s immigration laws,” Immigration Uganda said.
Authorities confirmed that the suspects are currently being processed for prosecution in accordance with Uganda’s immigration laws.
The operation is part of a wider nationwide crackdown targeting foreign nationals living and working in the country without proper documentation.
Immigration officials said similar enforcement exercises will continue across Uganda to ensure compliance with requirements for valid work permits and legal residency.
