Police in Kitgum District have arrested a man accused of beating his friend to death during a fight over roasted rat meat.

According to police sources, the incident happened after the suspect realised that one of his roasted rats had gone missing. He allegedly accused his friend, identified as Omony, of eating the meat without his permission, sparking a heated argument.

The quarrel later turned violent, with the suspect reportedly assaulting Omony and leaving him seriously injured.

Residents rushed the victim to Orom Health Centre for medical treatment, but he was pronounced dead on arrival.

Police later arrested the suspect and detained him at Kitgum Central Police Station as investigations into the killing continue.

The deceased’s body was taken to Namukora Health Centre IV for a postmortem examination.

In many parts of Kitgum and Lamwo districts, roasted rats are commonly eaten and also sold as a source of income. Depending on the size, a roasted rat is sold for between Shs500 and Shs1,000.
