Kampala Capital City Authority has suspended on-street parking along parts of Kampala Road and Jinja Road as part of efforts to reduce traffic congestion and improve movement within Kampala’s Central Business District.

In a public notice issued on Tuesday, KCCA said the directive affects the road section stretching from the Entebbe Road junction through Kampala Road up to the Yusuf Lule and Jinja Road junction near Kitgum House.

According to the Authority, the decision was made to improve traffic flow, enhance road safety and create a more organised transport system in the city centre.

Motorists who previously parked along the affected roads have now been advised to use alternative parking areas on Station Road, Dewinton Road, Said Barre Road and Nkrumah Road.

KCCA has also encouraged drivers to make use of parking spaces within commercial buildings and private premises they intend to visit, as well as designated off-street parking facilities across the city.

Some of the recommended parking locations include the National Theatre parking area, Uganda House and the multi-storey parking facility on Portal Avenue.

The Authority has urged motorists to cooperate with enforcement officers and comply with the new parking guidelines during implementation.

KCCA says the changes are part of wider plans to improve Kampala’s transport network, ease congestion and make the city cleaner, safer and more efficient for all road users.
