Police have arrested a man believed to be behind a series of violent robberies that have left residents of Kiwatule in Kampala living in fear.
The suspect, identified as Joel Nkwasibwe, had reportedly been on the police watch list over allegations that he was involved in repeatedly attacking and robbing people in the area, particularly during the early morning hours.
According to Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson Racheal Kawala, the suspect was arrested at around 6:00am on Wednesday during an intelligence-led operation conducted by officers from Kira Road Police Station in Balintuma Zone, Kiwatule.
Kawala said the operation targeted a group of suspected criminals believed to have been terrorising residents through a string of robberies.
Preliminary investigations indicate that on 6 July 2026, Nkwasibwe allegedly attacked a boda boda rider by hitting him with a blunt object, believed to be a paving stone, before stealing his personal belongings.
The victim suffered serious injuries and was rushed to Mulago National Referral Hospital, where he received medical treatment.
Police said Nkwasibwe remains in custody as detectives continue with investigations. He is expected to be taken to court once inquiries are complete.
Kawala urged the public to remain alert and continue providing police with timely information that can help track down criminals and improve security in communities.
