Kampala Metropolitan Police (KMP) have arrested three suspected members of a gang accused of targeting people carrying large sums of money on motorcycles in areas of KMP East.
The arrests follow investigations into a robbery on 17 August 2026 along Bukoto Heights, where a cashier from Tilupati was attacked while travelling to a bank.
According to police, two men riding a motorcycle approached the cashier and grabbed her bag containing about Shs22 million before fleeing. The case was reported at Kira Road Police Station.
Police arrested two suspects on 19 September and recovered a motorcycle believed to have been used in the robbery. A third suspect was arrested on 24 September, leading to the recovery of two more motorcycles.
The suspects have been identified as Byanyima Sadic, Waibale Joseph and Kisongode Ivan, who police allege were involved in the robberies as motorcycle riders.
Preliminary investigations have linked the suspects to other robbery cases. These include the theft of about Shs10 million from a person carrying money from a bank in Mpererwe in January 2026.
Police also suspect the group of being involved in the robbery of a Nigerian national near the US Embassy on 24 August 2026.
Police have so far impounded four motorcycles believed to have been used by the gang. They are UMA 366LZ, UMA 018MX, UMA 073NP and UMA 018NX, all reportedly Haojue motorcycles.
Investigators believe the suspects worked with other members of the gang who are still at large. Police are continuing to pursue them and establish their alleged roles in the robberies.
The three suspects remain in police custody as investigations continue and are expected to be taken to court once the inquiries are complete.
