The prime suspect in the killing of Afrigo Band founding member Moses Matovu has been remanded to Luzira Prison by the Makindye Magistrates Court.
Vincent Arnold Nsamba, 47, appeared before court and was formally charged with murder before being remanded until 3 November 2026, when he is expected to return for mention of the case.
The prosecution is expected to continue investigating the circumstances surrounding Matovu’s death.
Nsamba is accused of being involved in the attack that left Matovu, a veteran musician and founding member of Afrigo Band, with serious injuries on 24 September 2026.
Matovu was attacked in Kibuli, Kampala, and later died after being taken to Kibuli Hospital.
Police arrested Nsamba on the same day in Ochange Ward, Yesu Amala, Nansana Division, Wakiso District, following investigations into the attack.
According to Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson Rachael Kawala, preliminary investigations indicate that Matovu went to the home of a woman identified as Rose Tumusiime at about 5.30am on the day of the incident.
Kawala said Matovu and the woman were leaving the residence when they were confronted by Nsamba who is said to have previously been in a relationship with her.
A physical confrontation reportedly followed, leaving Matovu seriously injured.
A boda boda rider took Matovu to Kibuli Hospital, where he later died. The case was subsequently registered at Kabalagala Police Station as murder.
Police also arrested the woman and recovered several exhibits from the scene, including a concrete paver. Investigators also reportedly found bloodstains covered with ash near Matovu’s vehicle.
