Afrigo Band will continue performing despite the death of its longtime leader and veteran saxophonist Moses Matovu, with management confirming that the band will honour all its existing bookings.
Matovu, one of Afrigo’s founding members, died days ago after more than five decades at the centre of the band’s journey. His death left fans wondering whether the group would continue without the musician who had become synonymous with its identity.
In a statement, Afrigo management assured clients, fans and the public that the band remains intact and will continue with its performances.
“The band remains intact and committed to delivering the quality performances that Afrigo is known for,” management said.
The band also asked its supporters not to lose heart, saying Matovu spent more than 50 years building a strong foundation that continues to guide its members.
“Do not lose heart. Moses Matovu laid a solid foundation for over 50 years. The discipline, talent and values he instilled in the band remains intact and will continue,” the statement reads.
Matovu was more than a band leader. As one of Afrigo’s founding figures, he played a central role in shaping the group and helping it remain one of Uganda’s longest-running musical acts.
Although his absence marks the end of an era for the band, Afrigo says the values and musical foundation he helped establish will continue to shape its work.
“The Afrigo Band will continue to live on in his honour,” management said.
