Moses Magogo has secured a third term as President of the Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) after being re-elected unopposed during the federation’s 99th Ordinary General Assembly held on Saturday at the FUFA Complex in Mengo.

Magogo, who has led FUFA since 2013, returns to office with overwhelming backing from football stakeholders across the country.

In his acceptance speech, Magogo thanked the 88 delegates for their continued confidence in him and pledged to prioritise the commercial growth of FUFA.

“Our biggest focus now is to generate our own revenue streams. A sustainable football industry needs solid financial foundations. We must professionalise our operations and fully tap into the commercial potential of the game,” he said.

Magogo highlighted Uganda’s co-hosting duties for the 2027 African Nations Championship (CHAN) and Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) alongside Kenya and Tanzania as a major opportunity and challenge for the country.

“These are not just tournaments. They are a national responsibility. We must prepare our infrastructure, our teams, and our people to meet international standards and leave a lasting legacy,” he stated.

Under his stewardship, FUFA has implemented reforms such as club licensing, youth football development programmes, and infrastructure projects like the ongoing redevelopment of Kadiba Stadium.

However, his leadership has not been without criticism, with concerns raised over funding shortfalls, governance issues in the local leagues, and the inconsistent performance of national teams. Magogo acknowledged these concerns and pledged to confront them through transparency, stronger grassroots development, and strategic partnerships.

“We are committed to pushing policy reforms and enhancing cooperation with government and private sector players. Our core mission remains: to develop, promote, and protect football in Uganda at every level,” he affirmed.

The assembly also passed key resolutions aimed at strengthening women’s football, expanding referee training programmes, and modernising FUFA’s administrative systems.

In addition to his role as FUFA President, Magogo serves as Member of Parliament for Budiope East and sits on the Confederation of African Football (CAF) Executive Committee. His new term runs until 2029, a period during which Uganda will face both regional expectations and the domestic challenge of elevating the quality and appeal of its football.
