Uganda Cranes are flying high after defeating Somalia 2-0 this evening at Mandela National Stadium, Namboole, as the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers reached round eight.

First-half goals from Allan Okello and Jude Ssemugabi were enough to deliver a crucial victory for the Cranes.

The win lifts Uganda to 15 points in Group G, level with Mozambique and just four behind leaders Algeria. With the race for a playoff spot intensifying, the result comes as a massive boost for the Cranes.

With only two matches left, only the group winner will qualify automatically for the 2026 World Cup, while the second-placed team could still progress through the playoffs.

On the overall table of second-best ranked teams, Uganda currently sits in fifth place, but only four teams will advance to the playoffs.

The qualifiers will resume in October, with Uganda travelling to face Botswana, Mozambique hosting Guinea, and Algeria playing away to Somalia.
