Equity Bank has shown its support for Uganda’s golfing talent by awarding $2,000 to Marvin Kibirige, the country’s top professional golfer, to fund his participation in the 2026 Q-School Golf Tournament in India.
The cheque handover took place at the Uganda Golf Club, where the tournament was described as a key stepping stone for golfers aiming to qualify for major international professional tours.
Clare Tumwesigye, Equity Bank’s Head of Marketing and Communications, said the bank is committed to nurturing talent with global potential.
“Kibirige’s journey reflects our mission of empowerment and long-term partnership,” Tumwesigye said.
Kibirige, who has been a member of Uganda’s national golf team since 2018, expressed gratitude for the sponsorship, which he said will help him chase a long-held dream while inspiring young golfers across the country.
“Q-School represents hope for young golfers. It shows that with discipline, hard work, and the right support, Ugandans can compete internationally,” he said.
A former caddie raised around Namulonge Golf Course, Kibirige will also receive logistical support and playing equipment from Equity Bank, easing the financial pressures of competing abroad. He is expected to leave for India later this year.
