The camps of former presidential aspirant Dr. Kizza Besigye, now head of the People’s Government political formation, and People Power movement leader Hon. Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine, have released a circular indicating that the two leaders have agreed to henceforth work together in the struggle to oust the NRM government.

This follows a visit by Dr. Besigye and several members of his People’s Government to Hon. Kyagulanyi’s home in Magere, Wakiso District, on Monday to congratulate him upon returning home from his short stay in Luzira Prison.

Other People’s Government members who visited Bobi Wine alongside Dr. Besigye included MP Hon. Betty Nambooze and Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago, and at the end of the visit it was revealed that the political leaders from both camps had held a closed-door meeting on how to merge their change-seeking forces. Speaking to the media Bobi Wine and Dr. Besigye acknowledged that they are partners in the struggle and that they had began discussions to begin to work together.

Now the joint press statement released by the two camps today reiterates and even takes a notch higher Besigye and Bobi Wine’s words, indicating that both the People’s Governemnt and People Power have agreed to work together after acknowledging that People Power and the People’s Government are all after the same goal of freeing Uganda from dictatorship and oppression.

“we agreed that despite belonging to different formations/fronts, we must all work together as partners on the same mission,” the press release stated.

In the press release the two camps urge all their supporters, members and leaders to focus their energy and resources towards quickly ending what they referred to as the ’33-year rule of NRM/Museveni Junta’. The two camps also indicate an agreement and mutual promise to distance themselves from engaging in conducts that will create disharmony amongst themselves. They also vow to act in a manner that reflects togetherness and comradeship.

“We agreed to jointly resist all violations against our freedoms of speech ,expression, assembly, movement, conscience..” The Press Statement stated.

The press released was signed by both leaders Dr.Kizza Besigye and Hon.Robert Kyagulanyi.

Many are interpreting all the ongoing talk and acts of unity between Besigye/his team and Bobi Wine/People Power to be a path towards agreement on a single opposition candidate for the 2021 presidential election.

However, while Hon. Bobi Wine has repeatedly spoken out about the new union of efforts, Dr. Kizza Besigye has been notably silent about it, and there are those who question whether the former FDC honcho is really into the union or he has just been forced into it by his team and accepted it for formality but is choosing not to get so engaged in it.

We watch the space to see how the whole saga ends.
